Music at work

“Turn the music off; the new MD is coming on rounds.”

The head of the administration department came to my workplace and told me this after entering our hall and discovering the source of the music.

Me: It’s ok; we play it every day, almost all day long, I’ll let it keep playing.

Him: Don’t say later I didn’t warn you.

It was a big hall, one of the earlier ones when open office concept was introduced. There were about 40 of us in the hall; most of the teams had an average age of 28-30 years. All the teams in the hall worked very hard to get new business and then manage its successful delivery. I’d bring a few CDs daily and play them on the laptop.

When the new MD entered the hall, he heard the music and came to my workplace after enquiring about its source.

MD: What music is this?

Me: Kenny G live, on the saxophone.

MD: What technology is it?

Me: Simple one, CD, and I showed him the cover.

MD: I’ve not heard this one, sounds great, I shall get this.

And then he left.

Our daily sessions of playing music continued.
